To install Boundless into your instance of D2L/Brightspace, your LMS administrator will need to perform a one-time installation of the Boundless app. The instructions for installing the Boundless app are below. Please submit a support ticket with any questions and we will gladly screenshare with you to help resolve any problems.




In this document you will learn to:

  1. Get your LTI keys from Boundless

  2. Set up ‘Manage Extension’ credentials for Boundless

  3. Set up a Boundless Tool Provider

  4. Set up a Boundless External Tool Link


1) Get your LTI keys from Boundless

  • Go to https://www.boundless.com

  • Create an Educator account (or log in if you already have an Educator account)

  • Once logged in, click on the gear icon in the upper right

  • Click on "Account Settings"

  • Click on "Generate Keys" button in the LTI Access window on right side of page (ignore "Canvas" for now; the keys are generic to any LMS platform)

  • Copy the "Consumer Key" and paste it into a text document. (Label it “Consumer Key” to keep track.)

  • Copy the "Shared Secret" and paste it into a text document (Label it “Shared Secret” to keep track.)


2) Setup ‘Extensibility Management’ credentials for Boundless

  • Click on “Admin Tools” gear in the top right corner and go to “Extensibility Management”

  • click: Register App

  • Application name: Boundless

  • Trusted URL = https://www.boundless.com/lti/oauth/d2l-success/

  • Accept dev agreement

  • click: Register Application

  • Will generate Application ID and Application Key

  • Send your application’s host (e.g. boundless.brightspace.com) and the generated Application ID and Application Key to enterprise@boundless.com


3) Set up a Boundless Tool Provider

  • Click on “Admin Tools” gear in the top right corner and go to “External Learning Tools”

  • “Click on the “Manage Tool Provider” link

  • Click on “New Tool Provider”

  • Enter the “Launch Point” : https://www.boundless.com/lti/launch/

  • Enter the “Shared Secret” you copied previously into the “Secret” box

  • Enter the “Consumer Key” you copied previously into the “Key” box

  • Enter “Boundless Learning” as the “Name”

  • Check the following the Security Settings:

    • Check Allow users to use this tool provider

    • Check Send tool consumer information to tool provider

    • Check Send context information to tool provider

    • Check Send user ID to tool provider

    • Check Send user name to tool provider

    • Check Send user email to tool provider

    • Check Send system username to tool provider

    • Check Send system Org Defined ID to tool provider

    • Check Send system role to tool provider

    • Check Send link title to tool provider

    • Check Send link description to tool provider

  • Add any Org Units you want the the Provider to be available in


4) Set up a Boundless External Tool Link (https://documentation.desire2learn.com/en/setting-up-link-to-tool-provider)

  • Click on “Admin Tools” gear in the top right corner and go to “External Learning Tools”

  • Select the Manage External Learning Tool Links tab.

  • Click New Link.

  • Enter title “Boundless Learning” for the tool provider

  • Enter in the URL box: https://www.boundless.com/lti/launch/

  • Check “Allow users to view this link so that it appears as a Quicklink option to users at your organization.”

  • Check “Sign messages with key/secret with”

    • Tool consumer key/secret

  • Check “Use tool provider security settings”

  • Add any “Org Units” that would like to access the link
