To install Boundless into your instance of moodle, your LMS administrator will need to perform a one-time installation of the Boundless LTI plugin. The instructions for installing the Boundless plugin are below. Please submit a support ticket with any questions and we will gladly screenshare with you to help resolve any problems.



Enable Boundless LTI (Moodle 3.0)

First, go to Boundless.com and sign up if you haven’t already. This account will be used to manage the communication between Boundless and Moodle.


Visit https://www.boundless.com/user/settings/ and click “Generate Keys”. You will use the key and secret in the following steps.


Now, as Moodle administrator, go to Site Administration → Plugins → Activity Modules → LTI → Manage external tool types, and then click on “Add external tool configuration.” Use this table to fill out the form.

Under the privacy section you will see three options. Set each one of these to “Always.” Boundless takes your students’ privacy and security seriously. These options are necessary for the tool to function.

*A note on default launch container display options - As of Moodle 3.0, there are a number of options for configuring the display of courses to students. These options can be set across the board for an LTI tool at the administrator level, or at the educator level on a per assignment basis, depending upon the needs of the institution.


As an administrator, the default launch container option (part of the External tool setup) defaults to Embed, without blocks. On devices with smaller displays, you may find that one of the other configuration options better suits the needs of your users for viewing the content at hand. Choosing Existing window or New window will display the content (without a Moodle header or breadcrumb menu, thus allowing more room for said content) in the existing window or in a new browser window, respectively.
